Is Embrace Ministry the right fit for my team?

Thank you for your interest in Embrace ministry. We celebrate the good work God has already been doing on your team. As you are discerning whether an Embrace retreat is the right fit for your team and whether this is the right time, please consider the following questions:

  • Does the team have a basic level of trust in one another? Is the team healthy and open-hearted enough that team members will be able to share some of their past stories with one another?

Why this matters: Embrace retreats are not designed to perform triage for deeply broken and hurting teams, but to ignite personal spiritual transformation for the sake of the gospel. This requires an environment of vulnerability and trust.

  • Is personal spiritual transformation a shared desire of the team leader and team members? Is the team committed to personal spiritual transformation being part of the team’s culture/goals in the future?

Why this matters: Transformation doesn’t happen in 48 hours. What the team does together after the retreat matters more than the retreat itself. When engaging with Embrace ministry for the sake of personal spiritual transformation, it’s important for the team to take the long view.

  • Can all team members attend?

Why this matters: God uses Embrace retreats to give teams shared Bible teaching, experiences, vision, and tools. If a team member can’t attend, it can be challenging for that person to catch up and not feel left out.

  • Since childcare is not provided by Embrace ministry, can the team come up with a plan to provide childcare for its children?

Why this matters: It’s important for all team members to be able to be fully present with God and one another during the entirety of the retreat. If parents know their children are being well cared for, it will help them be at peace and give themselves fully to the experience.

  • Can the team identify a retreat center which allows for quiet reflection with God in nature?

Why this matters: Embrace retreats give team members multiple opportunities to connect with the Lord. It’s much easier to do this surrounded by beauty and quiet than the noise and pace of a city.

  • Are team members willing to fast from work, texting, and social media during the 48-hour retreat?

Why this matters: When pressing into areas within ourselves needing transformation, it can be uncomfortable and easy to slip into familiar patterns to “escape” the discomfort. Again, it’s important to be fully present to the Lord who loves us and wants to meet with us during the retreat. Note: we encourage one person on the team to be a point of contact in the event of an emergency.

  • Thanks to God’s generous provision through supporters, Embrace ministry doesn’t charge international teams for their services, nor asks teams to pay for their room and board. But we do ask the team to cover their own costs. Can the team pay for their own room and board?

Why this matters: Embrace ministry wants to steward well the resources God has entrusted to us.
